Nkunku hits out at AC Milan and Ruben Amorim's philosophy after returning to RB Leipzig

Christopher Nkunku has made surprising remarks criticizing the way AC Milan treated him and the football philosophy of coach Ruben Amorim, whom he blames for his failure in Serie A. The French forward, currently playing for RB Leipzig on loan with an option to buy, admitted that the past three years have not gone as expected and that he needed a familiar environment to rebuild. Nkunku joined Milan from Chelsea in summer 2026 for €37 million plus €5 million in add-ons, but after just one season with 7 Serie A goals, he was shipped out. Speaking before a recent Leipzig match, Nkunku said: "I don't know why they acted that way. The exit was surprising. Ruben Amorim's philosophy was not for me; I need to play my own football." The former Chelsea star admitted he underwent his first operation and wanted to return quickly, but that didn't help him adapt at Milan. At Leipzig, Nkunku feels welcomed and at home. "The first week was fantastic, I spoke with the coach and teammates. I am convinced I made the right decision," he said. As for Leipzig, the team is enduring a disastrous start in European competition, recently suffering a 4-1 defeat. Nevertheless, Nkunku insists he is hungry and ready to contribute. The deal is viewed as an interesting gamble for Leipzig: just €4 million loan fee with a €28 million purchase option. Meanwhile, Milan faces a significant loss after selling a high-priced signing within a year.
